Dauda Lawal distributes 300 vehicles and 2,000 motorcycles under Zamfara empowerment programme to support grassroots groups and economic activities
Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has distributed 300 vehicles and 2,000 motorcycles to individuals and groups across the state, describing the intervention as part of his administration’s efforts to promote grassroots empowerment and economic activities.
The distribution took place on Thursday, November 5, 2026, at the Trade Fair Complex in Gusau, where the governor presented the items to selected beneficiaries under the state government’s empowerment programme.
The initiative, involving 2,300 vehicles and motorcycles combined, is intended to provide individuals and grassroots organisations with resources to support productive activities, improve mobility and strengthen the local economy.
Speaking at the ceremony, Lawal said empowerment should involve practical support that enables people to become self-reliant, rather than remaining at the level of public promises.

“Let me emphasise here that empowerment goes beyond rhetoric. It requires providing our people and grassroots organisations with the practical tools needed to be self-reliant, restore dignity, and deliver the real dividends of democracy,” he said.
The governor described the distribution as another milestone in his administration’s Rescue Agenda, noting that the beneficiaries had contributed to the socio-economic and political development of Zamfara State.
He urged recipients to make effective use of the vehicles and motorcycles, stressing that the intervention was designed to facilitate movement across the state and encourage economic participation.
“I therefore call on you as beneficiaries of the gesture to remain firm and committed to championing our drive to rescue the good people of Zamfara State. Your strategic role in partnering with the current administration remains vital,” Lawal said.

According to a report by Daily Nigerian, beneficiaries include political groups, religious organisations and individuals. The report also identified representatives of political structures associated with former governors Bello Matawalle and Abdul’aziz Yari, alongside former ward and local government chairmen of the Peoples Democratic Party.
The state’s Deputy Governor, Mani Malam Mummuni, reportedly urged beneficiaries to use the items for their intended purposes. He also cautioned officials overseeing the distribution against diversion, warning that anyone found culpable would face appropriate consequences.
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to infrastructure development, economic revitalisation and efforts to restore peace and stability across Zamfara, a state that continues to face serious security challenges.

However, the announcement did not disclose the total financial cost of the distribution, the individual value of the vehicles and motorcycles, or detailed criteria used in selecting the beneficiaries.
The scale of the intervention places the Zamfara empowerment programme among the administration’s notable public distributions of mobility assets, although its long-term economic impact will depend on how effectively the beneficiaries deploy the items.
Lawal urged recipients to see the gesture as an opportunity to contribute to the state’s development, reiterating that his government remained committed to rebuilding the economy and improving living conditions across Zamfara.
