The 41-year-old made the announcement at a press conference held at his current club, Ligue 1 side Strasbourg, on Tuesday.

Rosenior, who has no previous Premier League managerial experience, had emerged as the frontrunner to succeed Enzo Maresca following the Italian’s dismissal on Thursday.

Both Strasbourg and Chelsea are owned by BlueCo, the consortium that took control of the London club in 2022.

“It looks like I am going to be the next manager of that football club,” Rosenior said.

“Everything is agreed, and it will probably go through in the next few hours. I wanted to announce it myself here in Strasbourg because of my deep feelings for the club.”

Chelsea have yet to confirm the appointment, though talks were held with Rosenior in London on Monday.

If confirmed, he will become Chelsea’s fourth permanent manager since BlueCo took over.

Rosenior’s coaching career began after a short spell with Brighton’s under-23s. He later served at Derby County from 2019, first under Phillip Cocu and then as assistant to Wayne Rooney.

He briefly took over as interim manager in 2022 and later became Hull City manager in the Championship before being sacked after 18 months.

In July 2024, he was appointed by Strasbourg, guiding the French club to seventh place last season.

Rosenior acknowledged that the media scrutiny at Chelsea will be a new challenge. “I’m here because I care about this club, and I felt it was right to answer your questions physically here today before I move on,” he said.
