Liverpool lead the Senesi transfer race as the defender nears Bournemouth exit amid Premier League interest and defensive concerns at Anfield

Liverpool Football Club have emerged as the leading contenders to sign Bournemouth defender Marcos Senesi in a positive development ahead of the summer transfer window, according to reports published on Thursday by the i Paper, amid growing uncertainty over the club’s defensive depth at Anfield.

The transfer race has intensified as the 28-year-old Argentina international approaches the end of his contract at Bournemouth in June, making him a potential free agent.

Liverpool are now believed to be ahead of Chelsea and Manchester United in the pursuit of the centre-back.

Senesi, who has attracted strong Premier League interest, is reportedly open to remaining in England after his Bournemouth deal expires, increasing competition among top clubs seeking defensive reinforcements.

Liverpool’s interest comes at a time when the club is managing defensive instability. Virgil van Dijk, the 34-year-old captain, has endured a challenging campaign, while Ibrahima Konaté’s form has fluctuated amid ongoing contract uncertainty.

Joe Gomez has also been heavily rotated between centre-back and right-back roles due to injuries and squad demands, further exposing Liverpool’s need for depth in defence.

The situation is compounded by the failed Deadline Day attempt to sign Marc Guéhi, leaving Liverpool without a long-term defensive addition last summer.

Senesi’s potential arrival would offer Arne Slot’s side a timely reinforcement as the club prepares for squad restructuring ahead of the next season.

However, no agreement has been reached, and final decisions are expected closer to the end of his Bournemouth contract.

The Liverpool Senesi transfer race is expected to remain active in the coming weeks as multiple Premier League clubs monitor the situation.
