MACBAN Plateau cattle poisoning warning was contained in a statement issued on Thursday by the State Chairman, Alhaji Ibrahim Yusuf Babayo, who alleged that herders operating in parts of Barkin Ladi and Riyom Local Government Areas have continued to suffer repeated assaults.

Alhaji Ibrahim Yusuf Babayo condemned a recent incident in which nine cows were allegedly killed in the Rakum community of Barkin Ladi on 18 April, describing the act as “senseless and provocative,” and warning that such developments threaten fragile peace in the area.

According to Alhaji Ibrahim Yusuf Babayo, the affected herders were carrying out lawful grazing activities when they were allegedly attacked, resulting in significant economic loss to already vulnerable pastoral families.

He described the destruction of livestock as both “inhumane and economically damaging,” adding that continued attacks could heighten tensions between communities in the state.

The association called on security agencies to investigate the incident thoroughly, identify those responsible, and ensure they are brought to justice without delay.

Alhaji Ibrahim Yusuf Babayo also appealed to community leaders, youth groups, and stakeholders in Barkin Ladi to exercise restraint and avoid any form of retaliation, warning that violence would only deepen mistrust.

MACBAN chairman reaffirmed the association’s commitment to peaceful coexistence and dialogue, urging authorities to adopt proactive measures to protect lives and property across affected communities.
