NCAA airline passenger care under scrutiny as regulator inspects Xejet, Rano Air, and United Nigeria Airlines over delays and poor passenger treatment

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has inspected the Abuja operations of domestic airlines Xejet, Rano Air, and United Nigeria Airline following complaints about passenger treatment during flight disruptions.

Michael Achimugu, Director of Public Affairs & Consumer Protection at NCAA, disclosed on X that the action was prompted by reports of poor communication and insufficient care for passengers during delays.

“While we understand the unique challenges of December per flight disruptions, airlines MUST provide the necessary care for passengers at a time like this,” Achimugu said.

He noted that many airlines fail to provide timely and accurate updates or light refreshments after two hours of delay, in breach of Part 19 of the NCAA Regulations 2023.

“The NCAA finds this unacceptable and has issued an ultimatum to the airlines, not limited to these three. We are watching, and action will be taken where necessary,” Achimugu added.

The regulatory authority’s move reflects a firmer stance on passenger rights, as domestic air travel surges during the holiday season.
