NDLEA Abuja drug raid leads to 132 arrests and 220kg of drugs seized as operatives dismantle trafficking joints across the FCT in a two-week operation

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has dismantled multiple drug joints and hideouts across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, in a two-week coordinated enforcement operation that led to the arrest of 132 suspects and the recovery of 220 kilogrammes of illicit substances.

The operation, carried out between April 11 and April 25, was confirmed in a statement issued on Friday in Abuja by NDLEA Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi.

According to the agency, the exercise was jointly conducted by the Directorate of Operations and General Investigation (DOGI) and the FCT Strategic Command following weeks of intelligence gathering and surveillance across identified drug hotspots.

Raided locations included Torabora Hills, Gwarinpa, Area 3, AYA, Durumi, Banex, Dei-Dei, Kubwa, Apo, Kwali, Gwagwalada, Wuse Zone 4, Garki Area 10, Jabi, and parts of Suleja.

Babafemi said the raids led to the disruption of several drug distribution networks operating within the capital territory.

Items recovered during the operation included cannabis (skunk), diazepam, tramadol, cocaine, methamphetamine, rohypnol, ecstasy, and codeine syrup.

Despite reported resistance in some locations, particularly Durumi Area 1 and the Suleja axis, NDLEA operatives successfully overpowered the suspected traffickers without any casualties recorded.

The agency noted that the coordinated approach ensured the dismantling of illicit drug hubs that have contributed to substance abuse and related criminal activity in the FCT.

Briefing NDLEA Chairman Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (rtd), DOGI Director DCGN Ahmed Sule Ningi praised the professionalism and resilience of officers involved in the operation.

Ningi stressed the importance of maintaining sustained pressure on drug networks to consolidate recent gains.

Marwa, in his response, commended the operatives for their commitment to cleaning up Abuja and directed that similar operational strategies be extended to other high-risk urban centres nationwide.

He reaffirmed the agency’s determination to intensify the fight against drug trafficking and reduce both supply and demand across Nigeria.
