Vice President Kashim Shettima has stated that Nigeria’s power sector reforms have moved beyond policy declarations into a phase of measurable outcomes as the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) marked its 20th anniversary in Abuja on Thursday, December 18, 2025.

Speaking at the State House Banquet Hall, Shettima described the Electricity Act 2023 as a “defining turning point” that has strengthened the legal authority, institutional footing, and market credibility of NDPHC.

He said the law has repositioned the company for a commercially driven future while retaining its national development mandate.

“The board views this milestone as an opportunity for institutional evolution. Our focus is on extracting greater value from existing assets, strengthening contracts and market participation, ensuring governance-led commercialisation, managing risks responsibly and investing in human capital,” Shettima said.

He assured Nigerians that the board would continue providing strategic direction, upholding governance standards, and protecting shareholder value while aligning operations with national energy and development goals.

Shettima also credited President Bola Tinubu with restoring investor confidence in the sector through disciplined, reform-driven strategies.

Jennifer Adighije, Managing Director of NDPHC, highlighted the company’s extensive contributions over two decades, including adding more than 9,000 megavolt-amperes of transformer capacity to the national grid, constructing transmission substations, extending line bays, and installing hundreds of kilometres of transmission lines nationwide.

“No entity, public or private, has invested as copiously as NDPHC in enhancing the power supply value chain. All of this has been made possible by the sheer determination and commitment of the board, management, and staff of NDPHC,” Adighije said.

She further noted that NDPHC is adopting a more customer-centric approach under the Electricity Act, leveraging the law to deepen collaborations with bilateral partners, eligible customers, regional players within the West African Power Pool, and other market participants, positioning itself as a key driver of power infrastructure development in Nigeria.
