The event drew key dignitaries, including Senator Otunba Engr. Gbenga Daniel, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Navy, alongside top naval officials, diplomats, and defence stakeholders.

As part of the celebrations, the Navy unveiled newly acquired offshore patrol vessels, multi-role combat helicopters, and surveillance platforms. These assets will enhance Nigeria’s maritime security in the Gulf of Guinea and beyond.

The fleet modernisation demonstrates the Navy’s commitment to curbing piracy, crude oil theft, and illegal smuggling operations.

Senator Gbenga Daniel praised the Navy for its bold strides in technological advancement and internal security.

“This celebration is not just a commemoration of the past 69 years but a testament to the Navy’s enduring evolution and its pivotal role in defending Nigeria’s maritime sovereignty,” he said.

Daniel, a renowned engineer and advocate for national security, emphasised the importance of a modern, well-funded Navy to support Nigeria’s economic and territorial integrity.

The Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, noted that the new platforms reflect the Navy’s growing operational strength and preparedness.

He stated,

“This year’s anniversary offers an opportunity not only for reflection but also for rededication. The Nigerian Navy remains steadfast in ensuring the safety of our waters and contributing significantly to regional peacekeeping operations.”

Established in 1956, the Nigerian Navy has grown into a major maritime force in West Africa. This year’s theme, “Securing the Maritime Commons for National Prosperity”, underscores national aspirations for a safer and prosperous maritime domain.

Guests at the event witnessed a dynamic naval display and toured the newly commissioned assets, showcasing operational competence and technological evolution.
