Lolo Uchechi Okwu-Kanu, wife of detained Biafra agitator Nnamdi Kanu, endorses his apology to the judiciary for his anger-fueled outbursts in court and clarifies the role of Chief Kanu Agabi in resolving tensions

Lolo Uchechi Okwu-Kanu, the wife of detained Biafra nation agitator Nnamdi Kanu, has publicly endorsed the apology tendered by her husband regarding the expressions of anger he made during his trial last year.

The apology was presented on Friday by Kanu’s new lead counsel, Chief Kanu Agabi, SAN, a former Attorney General of the Federation, to address the court over tensions in the legal proceedings.

In a statement issued on Friday evening, Lolo Uchechi explained that Chief Agabi’s intervention was necessary to resolve disputes that had emerged within certain segments of the Nigerian bar and bench, following Kanu’s legitimate but anger-fueled outbursts directed at Justice Binta Nyako’s court. These comments led to the recusal of Justice Nyako from Kanu’s case.

The statement, titled “Dignity in Justice Omotosho’s Court of the Federal High Court in Abuja,” emphasized the necessity of restoring decorum and balance to the judicial process.

Lolo Uchechi clarified that Chief Agabi’s actions were meant to smooth over the legal tension that had been created by Kanu’s angry remarks, and his efforts were aimed at ensuring proper legal decorum was upheld.

Part of the statement read: *“In court today, my husband, Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, accepted the need for Chief Kanu Agabi, SAN, the new lead counsel, to address the court of Justice James Omotosho on what transpired in Justice Binta Nyako’s court, which shook the foundations of the Nigerian judiciary.”*

The statement also noted that Justice James Omotosho, the presiding judge in the current proceedings, apologized to Nnamdi Kanu for the prolonged delays and mishandling of his trial over the years. This apology from the court acknowledged the hardship Kanu has endured throughout the legal process.
