Obidient Movement Anambra election has come under fire from political actors who, the group claims, have turned the governorship contest into a competition of money rather than merit.

Speaking on Saturday, the group’s National Coordinator, Dr Yunusa Tanko, alleged that vote buying was rampant, with poverty exploited to sway voters.

“Our agents across the state report widespread vote buying,” Tanko said. “Poverty has been weaponised, leaving many voters vulnerable to financial inducement.”

He called for stricter penalties for both those offering and accepting cash, stressing that elections should reflect the people’s true choice rather than financial leverage.

Tanko also dismissed allegations that the Labour Party was involved in vote buying, noting that the party lacked both the resources and inclination to engage in such practices.

Regarding Peter Obi’s position, Tanko clarified that the former presidential candidate supports George Moghalu but emphasised that the final decision rests with Anambra voters.
