Obidient Movement finance director resignation as Dr Peter Agada quits and launches a new political platform citing poor structure and coordination

The Obidient Movement, a prominent political support group that backed former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, has been thrown into fresh uncertainty following the resignation of its Director of Finance, Dr Peter Agada.

Dr Agada announced his resignation on Wednesday during a press briefing in Abuja, where he also introduced a new political initiative, The Movement Nigeria, marking a significant shift in his political engagement.

Explaining his decision, Agada cited what he described as poor organisational structure and weak internal coordination within the movement, stating that the situation no longer aligned with his professional expectations.

“I resigned about three days ago and submitted my letter to the headquarters, stating clearly that I would no longer continue in that role,” he said.

He added that the lack of clarity within the organisation made it difficult for him to effectively discharge his duties as finance director.

“The lack of structure does not align with my personality or my professional growth,” he stated, expressing concern over what he described as limited awareness of key internal activities.

Agada also clarified that his involvement with Peter Obi had been strictly professional, noting that he had met the former presidential candidate only twice despite serving within the campaign structure for over a year.

The newly launched Movement Nigeria, according to him, will adopt a decentralised funding model and avoid alignment with political personalities, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi.

Reacting to the development, Obidient Movement National Coordinator Dr Yunusa Tanko downplayed the significance of the resignation, insisting that internal restructuring was already underway to address concerns within the group.

Tanko maintained that the movement remained united and described the resignation as part of a broader wave of political realignment ahead of future elections.
