A 20-year-old man in Ogun State dies after an alleged assault by his uncle and others over a missing N150,000. Investigation is ongoing.

A 20-year-old man, Jamiu Oseni, has died from suspected complications following an alleged assault by his uncle and several others in the Idowa area of Odogbolu Local Government Area, Ogun State.

The incident, reportedly linked to a missing sum of N150,000, occurred on Monday.

A relative of the deceased, Akeem Oseni, said that the uncle had asked Jamiu to accompany him to a farm.

Upon arrival, the uncle allegedly claimed that money kept in his motorcycle was missing and accused Jamiu of theft.

Despite the young man’s denial, the uncle reportedly invited others who tied and beat Jamiu, sending away women present at the farm under claims they wanted to perform a traditional ritual.

“Our uncle and about four other family members connived to beat him… They beat him with a charm and brought him home,” Akeem Oseni said.

The assault continued at a police station after the uncle reportedly sought Jamiu’s arrest.

Jamiu fainted, and when water was poured to revive him, he began wrangling and died en route to the hospital.

According to family accounts, the missing money was later found.

Jamiu’s mother, Modupe Oshikoya, said an herbalist had been called in by the uncle, who claimed Jamiu was responsible.

She called on the Ogun State Government and authorities to ensure justice is served.

The Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, said he had not yet been briefed on the case.

A senior police officer, speaking anonymously, confirmed that the matter is under investigation.
