Tinubu Approves Second Term for Owoeye as Medical Director

Tinubu approves Owoeye for a second term as Medical Director of Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital, Yaba, effective 1 June 2025

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the re-appointment of Dr Olugbenga Adekile Owoeye as Medical Director of the Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital, Yaba, for a second and final four-year term.

The renewed tenure takes effect from 1 June 2025 and reinforces the President’s confidence in Dr Owoeye’s leadership.

The Tinubu approves Owoeye decision was confirmed in an official statement.

The announcement came through a statement signed by the hospital’s Director of Administration, Dr Adeyinka Antwi, who described the appointment as a continuation of effective management at the facility.

Dr Owoeye is the most senior consultant in the hospital and has served for more than two decades.

He graduated as a medical doctor from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, in 1994 and became a psychiatrist in 2003.

He later obtained a Master’s degree and a PhD in Clinical Psychology from the University of Lagos in 2005 and 2009.

The medical director is an active member of leading professional bodies, including the Nigerian Medical Association, the Association of Psychiatrists in Nigeria, the Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria, and the Nigerian Psychological Association.

He also belongs to the Nigerian Institute of Management and holds International Certified Addiction Professional (ICAP I & II) recognition.

Dr Owoeye has secured several research grants and has published more than 30 academic works, including one book.

He has participated in numerous local and international trainings and conferences that shaped his clinical expertise.

Married with children, Dr Owoeye has played a significant role in advancing mental health care in Nigeria.

His contributions span training, service management, and leadership of key committees dedicated to improving mental health outcomes.
