The council warned against premature claims to the throne following the death of His Royal Majesty, Oba John Olakunle Ojo JP (Afiditi II).

In a statement signed by the Secretary to the Local Government, Johnson Babajide, officials said the succession process is ongoing in line with established customs and the Chiefs Law of Ogun State.

“The attention of the general public, residents, stakeholders, and all concerned parties is hereby drawn to the ongoing process for filling the vacant stool of the Oniko of Ikolaje Idiroko,” the statement read.

The Odunfa Ruling House, next in line by rotational arrangement, conducted its nomination exercise on February 4, 2026, at the Local Government Secretariat, supervised by council officials, security agencies, and family representatives.

Three nominees were presented: Prince Olagoriye Jonah Ariori, Prince Sunday Adekanmbi Olayode, and Prince Olabowale Ade.

The statement emphasised that the Ikolaje Idiroko Council of Kingmakers (Afobaje) must select a candidate from among these nominees.

“No election has taken place, and no candidate has been selected, elected, or declared as the new Oniko at this time,” the council said, stressing adherence to proper protocols.

The local government further warned, “Any individual or group parading or presenting themselves or any candidate as the appointed, elected, or crowned Oniko before the formal conclusion of the process does so unlawfully and may face legal consequences.”

Authorities appealed to residents, members of the ruling house, and candidates’ supporters to remain calm and law-abiding until the lawful process is concluded.
