The Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) in Ogun has proposed N1.50 billion as its total budget estimate for 2022 fiscal year.

Mr Lekan Kuye, the Executive Secretary of SUBEB disclosed this while defending the 2022 budget proposal of the board before members of Ogun House of Assembly on Thursday in Abeokuta.

Kuye said that the figure consisted of N577.2 million for capital projects and the remaining N927.8 million for recurrent expenditure, with N10.6 million projected as Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).

The executive secretary said that the board intended to rehabilitate 47 classrooms across the state to the tune of N238.9 million.

In addition, Kuye said that N1.163 billion was earmarked for the construction of 80 classrooms and rehabilitation of another 60 classrooms respectively as well as 20 toilets among other facilities.

According to him, the amount for the execution of the projects is expected from the Federal Government’s intervention funds.

Kuye explained that the board would continue to prioritise the provision of qualitative education to all pupils for them to acquire appropriate levels of literacy, numeracy, communication and manipulative skills.

“With emphasis on information and communication technology as well as infrastructural development,” he said.

Similarly, the Chairman, State Teaching Service Commission, Mr Joshua Ifede, defended the commission’s N22. 92 billion budget for the 2022 fiscal year.

According to the chairman, N140.9 million was projected for capital expenditure while N22.78 billion was for recurrent expenditure

Ifede stated that N3.18 million was expected to be generated as revenue by the commission in the next fiscal year.

The chairman further said that the objective of the 2022 budget was to maximise the quality of teaching through intellectual professionalism by providing equitable, qualitative and affordable educational opportunities for all.

He said that the board would improve capacity development for teaching and non-teaching members of staff for effective service delivery.
