Olu of Warri confers title on Oluremi Tinubu, citing her Itsekiri heritage and support for Renewed Hope Agenda

The Ogiame Atuwatse III, Olu of Warri, on Thursday conferred the prestigious title of Utukpa Oritse Iwere on Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, describing her as a distinguished daughter of the Warri Kingdom.

The conferment took place during a homecoming reception organised in her honour in Warri, Delta State.

Oluremi Tinubu became the first recipient of the title in the history of the kingdom.

Ogiame Atuwatse III said the honour reflected a unique divine plan and acknowledged the First Lady’s maternal roots in Itsekiri land.

“The title conferred on you today reflects God’s unique plan. This is why we brought out all your people to receive you,” the monarch said.

“Indeed, the land and the people recognise when its own come home, and your homecoming comes in a powerful season of reflection, replenishment, love and unity.”

The Olu of Warri also commended President Bola Tinubu for the Renewed Hope Agenda, noting that the administration had reached out to Nigerians, particularly the poor in remote communities.

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori described the First Lady as a global icon, citing her influence beyond Nigeria and Africa.

“It is fitting to call you a global icon because we are proud of the way you represented Nigeria on the global stage,” Sheriff Oborevwori said.

The governor praised the First Lady’s Renewed Hope Initiative and the Free to Shine programme, as well as the distribution of medical kits to midwives in the region.

He also commended her respect for traditional institutions, calling it exemplary.

Prominent dignitaries attended the ceremony, including former Delta State governor Ifeanyi Okowa and the Ooni of Ife, Adeyeye Ogunwusi, who was received at the Olu of Warri’s palace by sons and daughters of the Warri Kingdom.

The conferment marks a symbolic moment of cultural pride and political goodwill in the Niger Delta.
