A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Ondo State, Comrade Olumide Aliu, has urged all members of the party in Akoko North West Local Government Area to sheath their sword and embrace peace.

Aliu, while addressing members of the Independence Consultative Council, a campaign group formed to work for the party’s candidate ahead of the last governorship election in the state, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, condemned what he described as a battle of destruction among party members in the local government area.

According to him, the group was formed by political leaders to work for the success of the APC in elections.

“The Independence Consultative Council (ICC) formerly known as Independence Campaign Council, was formed as an independent campaign group across all the 18 local governments of Ondo Slate to work aggressively, purposefully and peacefully for the victory of His Execellency, Hon Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa during the last Governorship election in Ondo State. The efforts of ICC with other groups ensured a landslide victory in our local government and across the state, such that has never happened in the political history of our dear State,” Aliu said.

He expressed surprise that members of the party would later come down hard against one another in a war of attrition.

Thereafter the Governorship election , which was massively won by our party, APC.
Independence Campaign Council in Akoko northwest was transformed into Independence Consultative Council with the motto: Equity, peace, progress and development.

“ICC leadership in Akoko Noerth West LGA, like in other local governments in the state, is a confluence of members of impeccable characters, seasoned politicians, captains of industries, and respected individuals. It is, therefore, unimaginable and appaulling that a section of APC members in Akoko North West would attack members of ICC by calling them unprinted names in the media and labelling them as opposition group. Our peaceful wards meetings were disrupted, while members were assaulted.

“It should be noted that these actions are against the freedom of association as enshrined in Chapter 4; Section 40 of the 1999 constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria (as Amended). Rights to peaceful assembly and Associaton.

“While appealing to our members to maintain the peace, we want to use this opportunity to call on all leaders of the party in Ondo State to intervene now before the matters snowballs into another crisis,” Aliu concluded.
