The directive, announced on Monday in Osogbo through a statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Malam Olawale Rasheed, affects state workers, local government employees and staff of tertiary institutions across Osun State.

The decision is aimed at encouraging wider participation in the Osun Voter Card Collection exercise and ensuring that eligible citizens are prepared to take part in upcoming elections.

According to the statement, the State Head of Service, Mr Ayanleye Aina, communicated the directive to workers through an official circular.

Governor Adeleke said the approved work-free day would allow public servants to fulfil their civic responsibility ahead of the August 15 governorship election and future electoral activities.

However, workers providing essential services, including medical personnel and security operatives, have been advised to make arrangements to maintain uninterrupted operations.

The governor urged public servants and members of the informal sector who are yet to collect their PVCs to visit designated collection centres without delay.

“Your vote is your power. Your voter card is your licence to the ballot and, by extension, to the ballot box,” Adeleke said.

The governor has previously encouraged residents to protect their voting rights and avoid selling their PVCs, stressing that participation in elections remains an important part of democratic responsibility.

The move comes as political activities intensify ahead of the Osun governorship election, with stakeholders urging residents to complete voter registration-related processes and participate actively in the democratic process.
