The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on President Bola Tinubu to focus on improving Nigerians’ welfare in his remaining two years, urging an end to wasteful spending and a review of anti-people policies to redeem his image

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has strongly urged President Bola Tinubu to prioritise the welfare of Nigerians during the remaining two years of his term, asserting that this focus is crucial to restoring his reputation as a leader.

In a message marking the Eid-el-Kabir celebration, the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, on Friday called on the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government to embrace the “fear of God” and put an immediate end to what he described as “wasteful spending, exploitation, dishonesty, and manipulative practices.”

“The Peoples Democratic Party congratulates Nigerians on the celebration of this year’s Eid-el-Kabir, urging them to use the occasion to reinforce their faith in the unfailing love, kindness and provision of the Almighty Allah despite the prevailing economic, security and social challenges confronting our nation,” the party stated.

The PDP expressed deep concern over the “pervading sense of gloom in the country,” highlighting “worsening insecurity where our nation has become a large killing field with citizens left at the mercies of terrorists, bandits and marauders; the unbearable economic hardship and agonizing life-discounting experiences all resulting from the reckless mismanagement of national resources by the insensitive APC administration.”

The opposition party further tasked the APC administration to use the Eid-el-Kabir occasion as “a turning point to revamp the productive sector and cause a healing in the nation by ending its corruption and reviewing all anti-people policies to, among other things, reduce the cost of fuel, electricity tariff and charges on critical services.”

The PDP also criticised the APC government’s borrowing practices, stating that it “must urgently stop putting the country in debt through borrowing that lacks any clear connection to meaningful or beneficial projects or programs for the people.”

Instead, the party continued, “the APC government must take immediate steps to recover the over N30 trillion reportedly stolen by known APC leaders through various fraudulent oil deals and other funds frittered from government agencies under the APC administration.”

These recovered funds, the PDP stressed, “must be recovered and channelled towards the provision of critical infrastructure, revamping the productive sector and enhancing the operations of our security agencies.”

“Our party, therefore, urges President Tinubu to use the remaining two years of his administration to redeem his image as a leader by being more sensitive towards the well-being of Nigerians in line with the demand for selflessness and submission to the Will and command of the Almighty Allah, which the Eid-el-Kabir teaches,” the PDP appealed.

Finally, the PDP charged Nigerians “not to give up hope but remain patriotic, continue to share with one another at this trying time and pray constantly for God’s divine intervention in the affairs of the nation.”
