Plateau Angwan-Rukuba attack calm appeal as Governor Caleb Mutfwang urges residents to avoid retaliation and assures support for victims
Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang on Monday, March 30, 2026, visited Angwan-Rukuba in Jos North Local Government Area following a deadly attack that occurred in the community on Sunday night, urging residents to remain calm and avoid reprisal actions as security agencies continue investigations.
The Plateau Angwan-Rukuba attack calm appeal came during the governor’s on-the-spot assessment of the affected area, where he expressed condolences to families who lost loved ones in the tragic incident. Governor Mutfwang described the attack as a painful loss that has affected the entire state.
Speaking to residents, the governor stressed the importance of unity and restraint, particularly among young people, warning against any attempt to take the law into their own hands.
He emphasised that retaliation would only worsen tensions in the already grieving community.
Governor Mutfwang reassured residents that security agencies have been deployed to restore normalcy and that the situation is being closely monitored.
He noted that the incident had drawn national attention and that efforts were underway to ensure those responsible are brought to justice.
He also addressed concerns about the victims, pledging that the state government would take responsibility for their welfare. According to him, injured persons receiving treatment in hospitals will have their medical expenses fully covered by the government.
In addition, the governor assured families of the deceased that proper burial arrangements would be made in consultation with them.
He stated that the government would not allow mass burials, but rather ensure that each victim is laid to rest with dignity.
Mutfwang further appealed to community leaders to support peace-building efforts and encourage calm among residents. He urged them to work with authorities in maintaining order while investigations continue.
The governor’s visit forms part of broader efforts by the Plateau State Government to stabilise the area, prevent further escalation, and provide reassurance to affected communities as they mourn the loss of lives.
