Plateau youths protest insecurity in Jos, demanding urgent action over rising killings and attacks across communities in the state

Youth groups under the Coalition of Northern Zone Ethnic Nationalities and the Plateau Youth Coalition on Wednesday staged a protest at the Plateau State Government House, demanding urgent government intervention over worsening insecurity and rising attacks across communities in the state.

The Plateau youths protest insecurity action saw demonstrators gather in Jos, expressing anger over persistent killings that have left residents increasingly fearful and vulnerable to attacks.

President of the Plateau Youth Coalition, Mr Ezekiel Bini, said the situation had deteriorated to a point where even security operatives were no longer safe, citing a recent ambush and killing of personnel in Kanam Local Government Area.

He warned that if security agents could be targeted, ordinary civilians were left with little or no protection, describing the situation as deeply alarming and unacceptable.

Also speaking during the protest, President of the Berom Youth Movement, Mr Dalyop Mwantiri, alleged that armed groups displaced from other conflict zones were relocating into Plateau State and intensifying attacks on local communities.

He further claimed that both Christian and Muslim communities were being affected, calling for stronger intervention, including possible international support to address the crisis.

The protesters submitted a list of demands to the state government and urged Governor Caleb Mutfwang to escalate their concerns to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for immediate federal action.

Speaking on behalf of women in the area, President of the Berom Women Development Association, Mrs Ngo Esther Banga, described the humanitarian toll of the violence, saying families were unable to live peacefully or care for their children.

The demonstrators expressed disappointment that Governor Mutfwang was not present to receive them, noting that he, alongside other top officials, was away on official duty at the time of their visit.

However, the groups vowed to return to the Government House on Monday to personally present their grievances and press for decisive action to restore peace in Plateau State.
