Kano Police bust tricycle theft syndicate, arrest four suspects including a woman, recover six tricycles and urge victims to visit Bompai Headquarters

Kano tricycle theft gang has been dismantled by the police following the arrest of four suspects and the recovery of six stolen tricycles in a targeted operation.

Acting on credible intelligence, police operatives arrested two key suspects on June 17, 2025, at Kura Local Government Area of Kano State.

The suspects, Auwal Mohammed, 30, of Hotoro Quarters, and Maryam Ibrahim, 25, from Bauchi State, were apprehended during an attempted robbery involving a tricycle rider.

According to the police, the suspects allegedly drugged the rider, Shu’aibu Aliyu, in an attempt to steal his tricycle. A swift response by officers foiled the plot and led to the immediate recovery of the vehicle.

Further investigations led to the identification and arrest of two additional suspects, believed to be receivers of stolen property. Suleiman Lawal, also known as Aljan, 25, of Sheka Quarters, and Muhammad Tajuddeen, 32, of Kundila Quarters, were later detained. The police confirmed that six stolen tricycles were ultimately recovered from the syndicate.

In a statement signed by the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Hussaini Abdullahi, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, the Command reaffirmed its commitment to justice.

“The Command is committed to ensuring that the suspects face the full weight of the law, based on their culpability,” the statement read.

The police also issued a warning to the public to remain vigilant against criminal groups using deceptive methods to snatch vehicles, especially tricycles which remain a common mode of transport in Kano.

Victims of tricycle theft have been advised to visit the Bompai Police Headquarters or contact the Police Public Relations Office at 07014601313 to identify and reclaim their property.

Commissioner Bakori assured residents of the Command’s continuous efforts to combat criminal activity and ensure the security of lives and property across the state.
