Real Madrid Dortmund thriller sent fans into a frenzy as the Spanish giants secured a pulsating 3-2 win over Borussia Dortmund to reach the semi-finals of the FIFA Club World Cup.

The clash, packed with goals, drama and late twists, proved to be one of the most emotional matches in recent memory.

The match, refereed by Ramon Abatti, began with Real Madrid dominating early exchanges. In the 10th minute, youngster Gonzalo Garcia opened the scoring after expertly controlling a lofted Arda Guler pass before firing home into the right side of the net.

Madrid kept the pressure on, and just ten minutes later, Fran Garcia found space and made it 2-0 with a composed low finish into the middle of the goal, leaving Dortmund visibly rattled.

Dortmund’s efforts to respond were valiant but largely ineffective in the opening half. Julian Brandt came closest with a sixth-minute header that missed narrowly, while Pascal Gross’s long-range shot was easily dealt with by Thibaut Courtois. Karim Adeyemi also threatened with a powerful run, only to be blocked by Madrid’s disciplined defence.

Despite a few dangerous set-pieces, Dortmund failed to break through. Daniel Svensson’s 26th-minute cross was calmly collected by Courtois, who continued to impress between the posts.

At the break, Dortmund manager Niko Kovac made key changes, bringing on Maximilian Beier, Felix Nmecha and Yan Couto to inject energy and creativity. Beier nearly halved the deficit in the 61st minute, but Courtois made a sharp save low to his left.

Madrid boss Xabi Alonso reacted with tactical substitutions in the 67th minute. Kylian Mbappe, Luka Modric and Dani Ceballos came on to maintain control. Modric nearly scored in the 74th minute with a curling effort, and Mbappe forced a fine save from Gregor Kobel just moments later.

The match exploded into life in stoppage time. With five additional minutes signalled, Dortmund pulled one back in the 93rd minute when Beier struck a rocket from outside the box to make it 2-1. The stadium erupted, sensing a comeback.

However, Madrid answered within a minute. In the 94th, Mbappe ghosted into the box and connected with a low cross, blasting his shot in off the left post to restore the two-goal cushion. Madrid fans celebrated wildly.

Then came controversy. In the 95th minute, Madrid defender Dean Huijsen tugged at a Dortmund shirt inside the box. The referee showed a straight red card and awarded a penalty. Serhou Guirassy stepped up and converted clinically into the top corner in the 98th minute.

With ten men, Madrid faced an anxious finish. In the 100th minute, Sabitzer almost equalised with a long-range effort, but Courtois once again came to the rescue with a magnificent two-handed stop.

After a tense final minute, the whistle blew, and Madrid emerged victorious in what will be remembered as one of the most emotional nights in Club World Cup history.

“We needed to fight for every ball,” said Courtois after the match. “This team never gives up, no matter the pressure.”

Madrid now moves on to the semi-finals, but Alonso will be concerned about the defensive lapse that led to Huijsen’s red card. Still, the team’s attacking strength continues to shine through.
