The excited crowd, carrying posters of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and Senator Kawu Sumaila, gathered at the Kafin Chiri Dam, which is currently undergoing rehabilitation after decades of abandonment.

The Renewed Hope projects Kano Jigawa initiative has brought renewed attention to communities that residents say had been neglected for more than 40 years.

According to officials overseeing the intervention, the rehabilitation of the dam is expected to support over 6,000 farmers through irrigation services and the construction of tube wells across 16 local government areas.

Engineer Mansur Ibrahim, who supervises the project, said the intervention would irrigate about 180 hectares of farmland while also supporting empowerment programmes for more than 2,200 residents.

Senator Kawu Sumaila described the N15 billion rehabilitation project as one of the most impactful federal interventions in the area in decades.

He said the initiative would improve food production, create rural jobs and strengthen economic activities within farming communities.

The media tour also covered several infrastructure projects in Kano and Jigawa States, including the ongoing Abuja-Kaduna-Kano Highway corridor and the Kaduna-Kano-Katsina rail project.

At the Kaduna-Kano-Jigawa-Katsina-Maradi rail line project site in Dutse, Jigawa State, Resident Engineer Ali Bukar disclosed that the Kano-Dutse section has reached 60 per cent completion.

He said the rail project is expected to enhance regional trade, economic growth and transportation across Northern Nigeria upon completion.

In Kano, journalists inspected the 300-bed Bola Ahmed Tinubu Special Hospital and other healthcare projects aimed at improving access to medical services across the state.

Officials also highlighted the ongoing construction of major flyovers and drainage channelisation projects designed to reduce traffic congestion and address environmental challenges.

Kano Commissioner for Environment and Climate Change, Nura Mohammed Hashim, said the Federal Government approved about N47 billion from ecological funds for the Jakara-Kwarin Gogau-Zungeru drainage intervention.

The Renewed Hope projects Kano Jigawa tour further showcased investments in education, agriculture and youth empowerment.

Jigawa State officials displayed hundreds of tractors, harvesters and mechanised farming equipment acquired to boost agricultural production and food security.

The state government also unveiled vocational and skill acquisition centres established to train thousands of youths in different trades and technical skills.
