Makinde made the statement on Wednesday in Abuja during the public presentation of the book Headlines and Soundbites: Media Moments that Defined an Administration, authored by former Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed.

Addressing a crowd of dignitaries, Makinde declared, “I am not APC, and I am not about to become APC,” emphasising that he would continue navigating the challenges within his party despite the ongoing leadership crisis.

He called for sincere collaboration among Nigerian leaders across political divides to advance national progress, while criticising political elites for deepening divisions for personal gain.

“Most Nigerians desire unity and coexistence, but this laudable desire is often manipulated along religious, ethnic, and regional lines by political elites,” Makinde said.

The governor stressed the need to abandon the “winner-takes-all” approach in politics, which he said fosters exclusion and undermines national cohesion.
