Millet Farmers warn APC that replacing Vice President Shettima could create political problems ahead of 2027 elections

National President of the Millet Farmers Association, Umar Abdullahi, has warned that the All Progressives Congress and President Bola Tinubu could face political difficulties if Vice President Kashim Shettima is replaced ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Abdullahi made the remarks on 26 February 2026 during an interview with Trust TV monitored by Daily Post.

Abdullahi stressed that Shettima has demonstrated loyalty, competence, and effective performance in his role, both domestically and internationally.

He said, “With Shettima in government, we have a lot of expectations and hopes. We are asleep if Shettima is there. We know a lot of things have started. We want that strategy to be maintained. The status quo must be maintained.”

The association president warned that removing Shettima without clear justification could alienate farmers who supported the APC during the last election due to the party’s Muslim-Muslim ticket. “APC will have problems if he’s removed. A lot of farmers will not vote for the APC,” Abdullahi said.

He added that the decision to replace Shettima must be accompanied by transparent reasoning, noting that the vice president has represented Nigeria commendably in foreign fora.

Abdullahi described his appearance before cameras as a first-time public statement, reflecting the seriousness of the matter for farmers nationwide.
