Tinubu Sends 32 ambassadorial nominees to the Senate, including Mahmud Yakubu, Reno Omokri, and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for confirmation


Officials said that Tinubu Sends 32 ambassadorial nominees to the Senate for confirmation, days after forwarding the first batch of three candidates.

The nominees include former INEC chairman Mahmud Yakubu, former presidential aide Reno Omokri, and ex-Enugu Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, among others.

According to a statement by Special Adviser Bayo Onanuga, the President asked the Senate to expeditiously confirm 15 career ambassadors and 17 non-career ambassadors.

The lists feature four women among career nominees and six women among non-career nominees.

Notable non-career nominees include Ogbonnaya Kalu from Abia, former Ekiti First Lady Erelu Adebayo, Tasiu Musa Maigari, Yakubu N. Gambo, Professor Nora Ladi Daduut, Otunba Femi Pedro, Femi Fani-Kayode, Nkechi Ufochukwu, Fatima Florence Ajimobi, Lola Akande, Grace Bent, Victor Okezie Ikpeazu, Senator Jimoh Ibrahim, and former ambassador to the Holy See, Paul Oga Adikwu.

Career ambassador nominees include Enebechi Monica Okwuchukwu, Yakubu Nyaku Danladi, Miamuna Ibrahim Besto, Musa Musa Abubakar, Syndoph Paebi Endoni, Chima Geoffrey Lioma David, Mopelola Adeola-Ibrahim, Abimbola Samuel Reuben, Yvonne Ehinosen Odumah, Hamza Mohammed Salau, Shehu Barde, Ahmed Mohammed Monguno, Muhammad Saidu Dahiru, Olatunji Ahmed Sulu Gambari, and Wahab Adekola Akande.

Onanuga noted that the new nominees will be posted to countries with strategic bilateral ties, including China, India, South Korea, Canada, Mexico, UAE, Qatar, South Africa, Kenya, and to Permanent Missions such as the UN, UNESCO, and the African Union. Diplomatic assignments will be finalised following Senate confirmation.

Last week, the President sent three nominees—Ambassador Ayodele Oke, Ambassador Amin Mohammed Dalhatu, and Retired Colonel Lateef Kayode Are—for screening and possible posting to the UK, USA, or France. Onanuga also indicated that more ambassadorial nominees will be announced soon.
