Tiv leaders praise security in Taraba, urging authorities to sustain deployments as new threats emerge in Ananum, Tor-Damisa, and surrounding communities

The President General of the Tiv Cultural and Social Association (TCSA), James Chihi Bakah, alongside the Forum of Tiv Political Appointees, has commended security deployments in Southern Taraba while raising alarm over emerging threats targeting Tiv communities.

Bakah briefed journalists on Thursday, noting that attackers were allegedly regrouping to threaten areas including Ananum, Tor-Damisa, Peva, and Kofai Amadu in Donga and Takum local government areas.

He praised the intervention of the Taraba State Government under Governor Agbu Kefas, highlighting that the presence of security personnel has begun to restore calm in previously volatile communities.

“Some areas that were previously tense are now experiencing relative calm,” Bakah said, adding that timely deployments had prevented further attacks and restored confidence among residents who had lived in fear for months.

The Tiv leaders also lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Nigeria’s armed forces, including the Army and Air Force, for their swift response to reported threats, emphasising that the intervention helped avert a wider crisis.

Bakah warned that without continued vigilance, the situation could escalate into violence reminiscent of past clashes in Benue and Kwara states.

He urged authorities to sustain and possibly increase security presence in vulnerable communities such as New Gboko, Demevaa, Adu, and Gbundu, particularly as the farming season approaches.

The leaders expressed gratitude to Governor Kefas for distributing relief materials to displaced persons in Donga, Abako, and Chanchanji, describing it as a demonstration of responsive leadership.

They also called on residents to cooperate with security agencies by providing timely intelligence to ensure lasting peace.
