Speaking at the ceremony, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Abuja, Prof. Hakeem Fawehinmi, represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Rosemary Udeozor, described the programme as a landmark partnership aimed at deepening postgraduate education and professional development.

Prof. Udeozor noted that the newly admitted students now belong to two academic institutions under the joint framework, urging them to remain committed to academic excellence throughout their studies.

The UniAbuja NILDS postgraduate matriculation 2024/2025 programme was established following a memorandum of understanding signed in 2024, with implementation beginning in 2025 through the admission of students into specialised disciplines.

Dean of Social Sciences, Prof. Mutiullah Olasupo, said the initiative offers programmes in Electoral Management Studies, Democracy and Security Studies, Legislative and Democratic Leadership, Gender and Democratic Governance, and Legislative Entrepreneurship.

He added that the courses will lead to diploma, master’s and PhD qualifications.

Director-General of NILDS, Prof. Abubakar Sulaiman, highlighted the alignment of the programme with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope agenda, praising the transparency of the admission process and noting the gender balance among the first cohort.

The matriculation ceremony also featured the administration of oath by the Acting Registrar of the University of Abuja, Prof. Mohammed Sambo, followed by the signing of the matriculation register, formally inducting the students into the programme.
