Jigawa NSCDC resolves 1,959 cases in 2025 despite funding, manpower, and operational challenges
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Jigawa State Command has reported resolving 1,959 out of 2,725 cases received in 2025, despite facing significant operational challenges.

The disclosure was made by NSCDC Jigawa State Commandant, Muhammad Ingawa, while briefing journalists at the state headquarters in Dutse on Monday.
Ingawa highlighted that the command’s workload increased after President Tinubu directed the NSCDC to provide security for VIPs nationwide, a role previously handled by the police.
The expanded mandate added to existing responsibilities, including addressing vandalism, theft, interpersonal disputes, and communal conflicts across Jigawa’s 27 local government areas.
“Some 612 cases required transfer to other agencies for further action, showcasing the command’s collaborative approach to justice,” Ingawa said. He commended his officers for efficiently handling 2,113 cases, while 771 cases remain under review.
On prosecutions, the Commandant revealed that the NSCDC took 125 cases to court in 2025, down from 150 in 2024.
Sexual crimes topped the list, with 37 rape and sodomy cases prosecuted.
Theft, burglary, trespass, cyberstalking, thuggery, cattle rustling, assault, and homicide were also pursued vigorously in court.
The command also focused on vandalism prevention, school safety, and the regulation of private guard companies, having registered three such companies in 2025.
Despite the achievements, Ingawa highlighted challenges including manpower shortages, logistics constraints, operational funding gaps, and court delays that affect timely justice delivery.
He appealed for continued support from the government and the public to enhance security in the state.

“With the arrangements on the ground, it will not be easy for any bandits to attack schools in the state,” Ingawa assured, urging Jigawa residents to collaborate with the command to build a safer community.
Police dismiss officers Anthony Obodo case has been confirmed as the Rivers State Police Command dismissed three of its officers linked to the killing of a 22-year-old University of Port Harcourt graduate, Anthony Obodo.
The State Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, disclosed this on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, while parading the three officers before journalists in Port Harcourt.
According to the command, the officers were linked to the incident that occurred last Thursday along Ada George in Port Harcourt, where Obodo was shot dead.
A member of the team, an inspector who fled after the shooting, has been declared a deserter.
CP Adepoju stated that the three arrested officers were subjected to an orderly room trial. Following the conclusion of the investigation and the establishment of their culpability, they have been dismissed from the Nigeria Police Force and will be charged to court.
“I am here to provide updates on some serious incidents recently recorded in the state, including the investigation into the death of one Anthony A. Obodo… Following the conclusion of the investigation and the establishment of the culpability of the officers involved… the officers being paraded today have been dismissed from the Nigeria Police Force and will be charged to court,” Adepoju said.
The commissioner noted that he understood the concerns of Obodo’s family and members of the public, adding that the Command has taken appropriate disciplinary action against the police personnel involved.
Obodo, a graduate of the University of Port Harcourt who was reportedly awaiting his NYSC call-up letter, was shot during a police pursuit.
