Ogun police firearm recovery confirmed as officers seize a gun and cartridges after a suspect fled during stop-and-search in Aiyetoro, Ogun State

Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command attached to the Aiyetoro Area Command on Tuesday recovered a single-barrel long gun and six live cartridges after a suspect abandoned the weapon and fled during a stop-and-search operation along the Ayetoro–Olodo Road.

Police recovery firearm when officers intercepted a rider on an unregistered Bajaj Boxer motorcycle who reportedly attempted to evade routine checks by speeding away upon sighting security personnel.

According to Police Public Relations Officer DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the suspect, in a bid to escape arrest, discarded the firearm and ammunition into a nearby bush before fleeing the scene on his motorcycle.

The recovered items were immediately secured and transferred to the command armoury for safe keeping pending further investigation.

Police authorities said efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend the fleeing suspect for prosecution, describing the incident as part of intensified operations against illegal arms possession in the state.

Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni commended the vigilance of the operatives involved, describing their response as swift and professional.

He reiterated the command’s firm commitment to tackling illegal possession of firearms and ensuring that individuals involved in criminal activity are brought to justice.

The command assured residents that security patrols and stop-and-search operations would continue across strategic routes to prevent crime and enhance public safety.
