Abiodun Orekoya second term bid draws huge support in Somolu as the Lagos lawmaker pledges more youth and infrastructure projects
Thousands of residents, political stakeholders and supporters on Thursday gathered at Oke Meta Memorial Primary School, Somolu, as Lagos State House of Assembly member Hon. Abiodun Orekoya formally declared his intention to seek re-election for Somolu Constituency I in 2027.
The declaration attracted a vibrant crowd from different parts of the constituency and quickly developed into a powerful show of support for the All Progressives Congress chieftain.
Speaking at the event, Hon. Abiodun Orekoya said the decision to pursue a second term was aimed at consolidating ongoing developmental projects and expanding opportunities for residents across Somolu.
Hon. Abiodun Orekoya urged constituents to sustain their support, promising renewed attention to education, youth empowerment, infrastructural renewal and social development if re-elected.
“We have started a journey of growth and development in Somolu, and there is still more work to be done. With your continued support, we will build on the achievements already recorded,” the lawmaker said.
The Abiodun Orekoya second term bid has gained momentum following the lawmaker’s legislative and constituency activities during his first term in office.
Hon. Abiodun Orekoya, who chairs the House Committee on Youth and Social Development, has contributed to several legislative initiatives at the Lagos State House of Assembly, including the Lagos State Administration of Civil Justice Bill 2023, the Local Government Administration Bill 2024 and the Community Development Association Bill 2024.
In education, the lawmaker facilitated bursaries for 147 students, while four others secured full scholarships through his intervention.
The constituency also benefitted from the distribution of 250 General Certificate Examination forms and 150 Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board forms for students.
Several residents have also benefitted from empowerment programmes linked to the lawmaker. More than 341 constituents reportedly received business grants, vocational tools and financial support designed to strengthen small-scale enterprises.
Hon. Abiodun Orekoya also supported 29 residents in securing employment opportunities within the Lagos State public service.
Youth engagement remained another major highlight of the event, with supporters pointing to exchange programmes, mentorship schemes, football competitions and youth-police dialogue sessions sponsored by the lawmaker as evidence of sustained grassroots involvement.
Residents who attended the declaration described Hon. Abiodun Orekoya as accessible and community-driven, adding that road rehabilitation projects facilitated during his tenure had improved transportation and commercial activities in several parts of Somolu.
Supporters at the gathering pledged continued backing for the Abiodun Orekoya second term bid, insisting that the lawmaker’s performance in office deserved another mandate in the Assembly.
