IWD 2022: We Need To Do More For Our Women – Hon. Funke Olaleye

The Assistant Financial Secretary, Lagos State All Progressives Congress, Hon (Evang.) Funke Olaleye has called for a more level playing field for women in Nigeria and the world on International Women’s Day 2022. The Lagos State theme for this year’s International Women’s Day is ‘Gender Equality For A Sustainable Tomorrow’. In a statement made available to newsmen, she said that women have refused to be given the needed opportunity to help maximise their potentials, a move she said, if continued, will see more women relegated. “Today is another day to remind everyone about the challenges facing us. We are reminding governments, our political leaders, and decision-makers to see women as partners in progress. We need a level playing field for us to show our potentials. We are not asking for much but equal rights. God created us equally and I see no reason why we should discriminate. “Gone are the days when the role of women is being dictated by norms and cultures. Women are breaking barriers and doing wonders all over the world,” she said. She commended the Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, under the Lagos State Government, for its continued support for women. International Women’s Day (8 March) is a day to join voices with people worldwide and shout the message for equal rights loud and clear: “Women’s rights are human rights!”
