The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed that Pastor Paul Adefarasin has been granted bail after undergoing hours of interrogation over a viral video that appeared to show him wielding a weapon during a road incident.

The clergyman voluntarily reported to police authorities at about 11:30am on Tuesday following a public invitation over the controversy.

In the video that sparked public outrage, Adefarasin was accused of brandishing what looked like a firearm while driving an unlicensed vehicle and allegedly threatening another motorist.

However, police have now dismissed the firearm allegation. In a late-night update on the command’s official X account, the spokesman for the Lagos Police Command, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, clarified that the object in question was a stun gun.

What was recovered… is not a lethal weapon or firearm but a stun gun.

“What was recovered from him, the gun-like object seen in the viral video, is not a lethal weapon or firearm but a stun gun which is a prohibited anti-riot equipment,” Hundeyin stated.

He added that Adefarasin was released on bail and that investigations into the matter were ongoing.

The incident comes days after the pastor publicly addressed the situation during a church service, denying any wrongdoing. He insisted he never held a firearm nor threatened anyone.

The police have not specified the terms of his bail or whether charges will be filed, though the use and possession of stun guns remain prohibited under Nigerian law.
