The Osun Amotekun Corps commander was attacked around 10:05 p.m. along Ikirun Road, opposite Charity Hotel, as he drove home alone after work. According to a statement by the Corps spokesperson, Mr Abass Yusuf, the assailants opened fire, riddling Omoyele’s car with bullets.

“It is deeply troubling that a commander of Amotekun could be targeted in such a coordinated and vicious manner,” Yusuf said.

In a chilling follow-up, about 15 masked men were also reported to have stormed Omoyele’s private residence later that same night. Eyewitnesses said the attackers arrived in a Hilux van and a Toyota Highlander SUV, raising suspicions of a well-planned operation.

The commander sustained gunshot wounds and is currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed medical facility under protective security watch.

Yusuf stressed that this was not just an attack on an individual, but a strike at the symbol of local security in the state.

“The attack raises serious questions about the rising insecurity and the safety of those entrusted with protecting our communities,” he added.

He urged residents to remain calm and vigilant, and to report any suspicious movements to law enforcement agencies.

The case has been reported to the Ota-Efun Police Division, and investigations are ongoing.

Meanwhile, tensions remain high in Osun State following recent controversies involving the Amotekun Corps.

Governor Ademola Adeleke has already ordered a full investigation into the alleged killing of residents by Amotekun operatives in Akinlalu community. A government delegation has been sent to the area to assess the situation.
