Badagry indigenes appeal to President Tinubu to zone APC’s 2027 Lagos governorship ticket to their division, citing loyalty and years of marginalisation

Badagry people urge Tinubu to support their long-standing demand for political inclusion by zoning the 2027 All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship ticket in Lagos State to their division.

The appeal was made under the platform of the Concerned People of Badagry Forum, a group of indigenes who insist their region has been historically marginalised in the race for leadership.

For decades, the Badagry division has remained a loyal base for the APC and a consistent supporter of the Lagos political structure known as the “Lagos project.”

Yet, despite this commitment, the region has never produced a governor, a trend the group now wants to change in the coming electoral cycle.

One of the forum’s leaders, Saka Shenayon, a prominent APC chieftain in the area, expressed the collective desire of the people to see one of their own emerge as the next governor.

He confirmed that efforts are being made to meet with President Bola Tinubu to formally present their case.

“We will present a quality candidate, and we hope the leadership will grant our request,” Shenayon said in an interview. His statement reflects the strategic importance of the appeal, both as a show of loyalty to the ruling party and as a call for equity in the state’s political rotation.

In a joint statement signed by Shenayon and fellow indigenes Moses Ogunbiyi, Sejuro Samuel, Rofeequat Onabamiro, Kamoru Ajape, and Babatunde Olaide-Mesewaku, the forum highlighted Badagry’s significant contribution to the political stability of Lagos State.

They argue that it is time the division receives fair representation at the highest level of governance within the state.

As the 2027 election approaches, the call from Badagry has added a new layer to the conversation on zoning and succession in Lagos.

The state, often regarded as Nigeria’s political and economic nerve centre, has traditionally seen its governorship rotate among a few divisions. The Badagry people believe this practice should evolve to reflect broader inclusivity.

Whether the APC leadership and President Tinubu will accede to the request remains to be seen. However, the appeal has reignited debates around zoning, marginalisation, and political equity in Lagos State.
