The passengers, including a man, his wife Nafisa Abdulrazak, 41, their daughter Ummu Salma Abdulgafar, 13, and Maryam Abdulrazak, 10, were intercepted while transporting bags of rice from Naka to Kogi State in a Sienna vehicle.

Police sources said the Divisional Police Officer of Adoka swiftly mobilised patrol teams and tactical units, who combed surrounding bushland and secured the release of the victims without ransom.

The travellers were debriefed and allowed to continue their journey safely.

Intelligence reports from the State Investigation Department on February 9 revealed the presence of heavily armed herdsmen in Ordue Zungu, Moon Council Ward, Kwande Local Government Area.

The group was linked to a recent attack that resulted in the deaths of a unit commander and ten civilians.

Authorities warned that the bandits are operating from difficult terrain near Moon Stream, posing challenges to security operations.

The police recommended the deployment of air support over the coming days to reinforce ground efforts and prevent further attacks on communities including Anen, Tumahar, Udedeku, Nyihemba, Acho’Ba, Wayar, and Nyuduu.

Despite the threat, Benue State Police Commissioner, Mr. Kabeer Bello, reassured the public that overall security in the state remains stable.
