Governor Dauda Lawal received the prestigious honour at the second edition of the Nigeria Broadcasting Awards, where BON praised his transformative efforts in rebuilding critical infrastructure and modernising the state capital, Gusau.

The organisers said Governor Dauda Lawal earned the BON Governor of the Year award for infrastructure due to visible progress across multiple sectors, including roads, hospitals, schools, and aviation development.

A statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, confirmed that BON highlighted Zamfara’s “unprecedented and transformative achievements” in infrastructure delivery.

The statement noted that Governor Dauda Lawal’s administration had embarked on a broad urban renewal programme that reshaped key public facilities and improved access to essential services across the state.

BON also credited the administration with constructing a modern international airport in Zamfara, describing it as a landmark achievement that strengthens the state’s economic outlook.

In addition, the statement revealed that over 800 schools have been built, refurbished, and equipped across Zamfara’s 14 local government areas under the governor’s watch.

General hospitals have also been constructed and upgraded, alongside extensive urban development projects aimed at improving living standards and public service delivery.

The award ceremony also honoured other prominent Nigerians, including Governors Bassey Otu of Cross River and Uba Sani of Kaduna, alongside Minister of Information and National Orientation Mohammed Idris.

Media veterans such as John Momoh, Shyngle Wigwe, Abubakar Jijiwa, and Sa’a Ibrahim were also recognised for their contributions to the broadcasting and communication sector.

The selection committee, chaired by Dr Danladi Bako, said the awards followed a rigorous months-long evaluation process designed to uphold excellence in public service and media practice.

BON said the recognition of Governor Dauda Lawal reflects a broader commitment to rewarding impactful governance and encouraging developmental leadership across Nigeria.
