Edo kidnapping rescue operation sees police free Jemila Ibrahim and arrest five suspects after coordinated bush combing in Etsako West

A combined team of security operatives has rescued a kidnapped woman, Jemila Ibrahim, and arrested five suspects during a coordinated operation in Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State.

Rescue operation in Edo kidnapping case followed the abduction of the victim on May 10, 2026, with security forces tracking and rescuing her on May 13 after sustained bush combing around Okpege River Road in Iyuku community, Jattu.

The development was confirmed in a statement issued by the Edo State Police Command spokesperson, ASP Eno Ikoedem, and made available to journalists in Benin City.

According to the statement, the arrested suspects include Nura Saminu (24), Shaibu Isah (23), Suraj Sabitu (23), Yajubu Sagiru (23), and Oseni Abdullahi (26).

The rescued victim has since been taken to a medical facility for treatment, while the suspects remain in custody pending the conclusion of investigations.

Police authorities said the suspects will be arraigned in court after investigations are completed.

Edo State Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, commended the operatives involved in the successful rescue and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to intensifying the fight against kidnapping and other violent crimes across the state.
