Daniel, who also serves as deputy chairman of the Senate Committee on National Identity and National Population, argued that historical injustices had left the region without standalone state status for over a century.

Speaking before members of the National Assembly and stakeholders, Daniel highlighted the economic and cultural significance of the Ijebu region, citing its growing industrial hub, contributions to Ogun State revenue, and internationally recognised Ojude Oba Festival.

He urged the committee to consider the region’s youthful population and homogenous cultural heritage as key factors in supporting state creation.

Daniel also proposed amendments to establish the Sovereign Investment Authority and Sovereign Wealth Fund as independent constitutional bodies, aimed at enabling better fiscal management and investment without bureaucratic constraints.

In addition to state creation and fiscal reform, Daniel emphasised the need to address disparities in citizenship.

He advocated for birthright citizenship for Africans of Nigerian descent, stressing that Nigeria’s foreign policy has always prioritised Africa-centred engagement and protection.

The senator concluded by urging colleagues and citizens to support the amendments for fairness, equity, and national prosperity, framing the proposals as a legacy-building initiative for future generations.
