The Heirs Insurance Group has opened applications for its 4th annual Essay Championship for junior secondary students nationwide, offering N10.5m in prizes, including N5m scholarship for the winner, and introducing a new N1m Teachers’ Insurance Awareness Prize
The Heirs Insurance Group has announced the official opening of applications for the fourth edition of its annual Heirs Insurance Essay Championship.
This nationwide competition, specifically targeted at junior secondary school students, aims to promote education and deepen insurance awareness among the younger generation.
In a statement released on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, the Group revealed that this year’s edition boasts an impressive N10.5 million worth of prizes for students and schools.
The top-performing student will receive a substantial N5 million scholarship, alongside an N1 million education grant for their school.
The first and second runners-up will also be awarded scholarships of N2 million and N1 million, respectively.
To encourage early engagement with insurance concepts, the application process itself incorporates insurance-focused themes and quizzes.
To participate, eligible students are required to submit original essays of no more than 500 words on the compelling topic: ‘The Role of Insurance in Keeping Families Safe and Secure’. Submissions are open from May 27 to July 8, 2025, via the Group’s dedicated website.
This year, we are not only empowering students and their schools but also shining a light on the critical role teachers play in shaping financially aware communities.
In a significant expansion of the initiative, the 2025 edition introduces a brand-new category: the Teachers’ Insurance Awareness Prize.
This addition is designed to recognize and reward teachers who actively champion and promote insurance education within their schools and broader communities.
The top teacher in this new category will receive a N1 million cash prize, with an additional N500,000 grant being awarded to their school.
To qualify for this recognition, teachers must meticulously implement an insurance awareness project and provide compelling evidence of their initiative and its tangible impact.
Commenting on this year’s expanded competition, Ifesinachi Okpagu, Chief Marketing Officer, Heirs Insurance Group, expressed the company’s enthusiasm.
“We are excited to return with an even bigger edition of the Heirs Insurance Essay Championship. This year, we are not only empowering students and their schools but also shining a light on the critical role teachers play in shaping financially aware communities. Across our businesses, we see education as a powerful tool to build a more secure future, and we are proud to drive that vision forward,” Okpagu stated.
The Heirs Insurance Essay Championship remains a flagship Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative of Heirs Insurance Group.
It underscores their commitment to improving education outcomes and fostering a deeper understanding of insurance among future generations. Winners of the programme are slated to be announced at a Grand Finale event scheduled for August 2025.
