IHS Nigeria partners with FCT’s Health Services to promote clean energy, reduce carbon emissions, and improve environmental health standards

IHS Nigeria partners on clean energy in FCT with the Health Services and Environment Secretariat (HSES) to promote sustainability and improve environmental health across Abuja.

The strategic collaboration was formalised on Thursday, 25 September, at IHS Nigeria’s Lagos headquarters, signalling a strong joint commitment to advancing cleaner energy use and reducing carbon emissions in the Federal Capital Territory.

IHS Nigeria, a subsidiary of IHS Towers, one of the world’s largest independent shared communications infrastructure operators, will work closely with HSES to implement community-focused projects aimed at increasing the use of sustainable energy and enhancing environmental health standards in the FCT.

Mohamad Darwish, CEO of IHS Nigeria, emphasised the importance of environmental responsibility within their sustainability agenda.

“With over 16,000 sites nationwide, we recognise our duty to cut carbon emissions and promote clean energy. Our $750 million investment in solar and hybrid power solutions over the last decade underpins this commitment. Partnering with HSES allows us to support healthier communities and contribute actively to Nigeria’s energy transition,” he said.

Speaking for HSES, Mandate Secretary Dr Dolapo Fasawe highlighted the vital link between health and the environment.

“There is no health without a clean environment. This partnership exemplifies how public and private sectors can collaborate to advance sustainability and protect citizens’ well-being. Our goal is to demonstrate practical clean energy solutions and inspire other Nigerian states to follow the FCT’s lead,” she noted.

The partnership aligns closely with Nigeria’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) on climate action and reflects a shared ambition to build a healthier, more sustainable future for all residents of the Federal Capital Territory.
