Has Abdulkabir Adekunle Akinlade’s political career reached a dead-end?
This is the question on the lips of many , especially in Ogun State,as the Appeal Court sitting in Ibadan, Oyo State, last week, nailed the coffin of his governorship ambition when it affirmed the victory of Prince Dapo Abiodun as the winner of the governorship election.
It is a fact that the Yewa born House of Representatives member is not clairvoyant.
Even if the Allied Progressives Movement, APM, governorship candidate is, he has not publicly professed to be one.
Perhaps, this explains why he couldn’t foresee his waning popularity and diminishing political influence in the state’s politics.
Maybe if he could see beyond his nose, he would have accepted his fate in good faith over the last May guber poll in the state.
However, many disclosed that the London returnee politician was blinded by his ambition while also being encouraged by his former boss and political godfather, Ibikunle Amosun’s over-bloated ego.
Against all odds, Abdulkabir Akinlade had thrown his hat in the ring to contest for the governor of Ogun State, having been assured of victory in the election by Amosun.
But Akinlade was trounced by the candidate of All Progressives Congress, APC, Abiodun.
Typical of an unrepentant optimist, he had challenged the outcome of the election.
But today, the former member of the House of Representatives has been gnashing his teeth since the Appeal Court affirmed the victory of the governor.
It will be recalled that in the face of the crisis in the build-up to the election, Akinlade had defected to the Allied Progressives Movement, APM. But he lost in the end.
