Yoruba Forum Applauds Security Agencies For Handling Of Secession Rally In Lagos

The Yoruba Appraisal Forum (YAF) has lauded security agencies for the professional manner it handled the “Yoruba Nation” agitation Mega rally in Lagos State.

Crystal News learnt that on Saturday, July 3, 2021, security agencies dispersed a mega rally organized by “Yoruba Nation” secessionist agitators led by Sunday Ighogho.

The Yoruba Nation rally which was to hold at the Gani Fawehinmi Park at Ojota, Lagos, was disrupted by security agencies using hot water and tear gas to disperse participants to avert the total breakdown of law and order in the state that might lead to loss of lives and destruction of property.

In a statement in Lagos on Sunday,  National Coordinator of YAF, Chief Adesina Animashaun, said the quick intervention of security outfits in Lagos state and the manner they handled the agitators were highly commendable.

“We foresaw the rally being hijacked by hoodlums if allowed to hold.

“However, we are happy that the police, DSS and other security agencies were able to handle the situation in high and commendable professional manner that stopped the situation from escalating.

“The YAF believes in project Nigeria and sustaining the peace and unity that exists in Lagos state among the various religions and tribes.

“We are grateful that our youth, many of whom do not even understand the implications of the agitation but recruited to join were not harmed nor killed in the process,” he said.

Animashaun, who sued for calm also said there was a need for the youth in the state to shun being used as tools of terror in Lagos state and indeed the South West.

He also warned against what he described as alleged plans for a secession alliance between agitators in the South West and groups from other regions.

“The secessionist agenda is dead on arrival. It will not thrive. Those agitating should have a rethink and refrain as the implications will be dire for them and their followers.

“Once again, we urge parents, guardians, and traditional rulers to call their children, wards and domain to order,” he said.

Meanwhile, a 14-year-old girl identifies as Jumoke was reportedly killed by a stray bullet during a clash between the security agents and the Oodua Republic agitators in Ojota, Lagos.

But the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Olumuyiwa Adejobi, denied the report in a statement, saying the Police “did not fire a single live bullet at Ojota rally today”.

Adejobi said, “The attention of the Lagos State Police Command has been drawn to a news making rounds that a 14-year-old girl was hit and killed by police bullet today July 3 at the venue of the Oodua Republic Mega Rally in Ojota, Lagos.

“The command hereby wishes to debunk the rumour and state categorically that it’s a calculated attempt to create confusion and fears in the minds of the good people of Lagos State and the country at large.

“The command did not fire a single live bullet at Ojota rally today.

“The said corpse was found wrapped and abandoned at a distance, far from Ojota venue of the rally, behind MRS Filling Station, inward Maryland, on the other side of the venue, with dried blood stains suggesting that the corpse is not fresh,’’
