Unknown gunmen suspected to be bandits have abducted scores of students at Bethel Secondary School, Maramara in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
Crystal News gathered that the gunmen invaded the school premises around 1:00 am, shooting indiscriminately and made away with scores of students.
The Public Relations Officer of the Kaduna State Police Command, ASP Mohammed Jalije, confirmed the incident said 17 of the students had been rescued.
Jalige said the exact number of students abducted by the bandits had yet to be ascertained, adding that details would be made public in due course.
This online news platform reports that kidnapping has been a regular occurrence in majorly the northern part of Nigeria.
Kaduna State Speaker, Yusuf Zailani Expresses Worry
Alhaji Yusuf Zailani, speaker of Kaduna State House of Assembly expressed worry that bandits and kidnappers are targeting key sectors of the state.
Zailani said, “I am greatly worried by the fact that these recent abductions are targeted at key sectors of our society.
“We woke up this (Monday) morning to yet another depressing news of the abduction of students of the Bethel Baptist High School, Kaduna.
“This is not a cheering news coming a day after the abduction at the Leprosy Training Centre, Zaria.’’
He, however, said that everything was being done to ensure the protection of lives and property of residents of the state.
The speaker urged those perpetrating the “criminal acts to repent’’.
