Osun State Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola lauds the state, says it is not doing badly, 30 years after its creation.
Oyetola stated this while during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria monitored by Crystal News in Abuja at a forum to mark his three years in office.
He noted that when compared with its contemporaries, Osun was not lagging behind in both human and physical developments.
Osun was created in August. 27, 1991 along with Abia, Enugu, Delta, Jigawa, Kebbi, Kogi, Taraba, and Yobe.
The governor lauded the efforts of the founding fathers of the state, including past military administrators and democratically elected governors for taking the state to its present height.
“Let me say we thank God for the creation of our dear state. We also thank the founding fathers for their efforts in ensuring that we have our own state on August 27, 1991.
“I must also commend the past governors and military administrators, who had served our state from that time till the time I became governor.
“They have all done very well. Starting from retired Maj.-Gen. Segun Ajiborisha to Chief Bisi Akande, to Gov. Olagunsoye Oyinlola, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola and others, including me.
“We must commend and thank them for their services to the state and humanity in general.
“Just like a child who was born 30 years ago, our state is now an adult. I can say categorically that our state is doing well and so far so good. We thank God.’’
Oyetola said that challenges encountered in the 30 years journey included formulation of right policies, getting the right people to work with and the issue of getting adequate resources, among others.
“Yes, there were challenges along the line. When you have a situation like that, you must start from scratch.
“Formulating policies, getting the right people to work with you and the issue of resources.
“There are also issues of managing people, religion, political and traditional issues and a lot of other challenges.
“But in any case, that’s the essence of being in government. If you are in government just to wine and dine, then you are not supposed to be in government.
“It is natural, it is something that one should envisage and you can’t get there and be lamenting, you must fix the problems.
“Challenges? Yes, but they are not insurmountable,’’ the governor said.
