The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State has accused the State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, of wasting over N250 million public funds on the launching of his book in Abuja.
The PDP alleged that two aircraft were chartered to ferry over 200 people from Akure Airport to Abuja yesterday, asking what benefits the people of Ekiti will derive from the book.
State Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Raphael Adeyanju, in a release in Ado Ekiti on Thursday, said “it is funny that Governor Fayemi, who has envisioned nothing in Ekiti is wasting public funds to launch a book on envisioning a New Nigeria.
“What manner of a new Nigeria can an absentee governor like Fayemi, whose first four years plunged Ekiti into debt, with borrowed money used to execute projects on billboards envision for Nigeria?”
The PDP said apart from wasting public funds, government activities were paralysed since Wednesday that all political appointees and top civil servants were ferried to Abuja at the expense of Ekiti treasury just to witness the book launch.
The party, which described the book launch as a declaration of Fayemi’s presidential ambition, said Nigerians will have to ask him how secured he has made Ekiti to think that he can rule Nigeria.
“In Ekiti here, traveling from one town to another has become a nightmare because of bandits and all roads are bad (Akure to Ekiti, no road). Nothing to point to as an achievement of his government. Yet, he is jumping up and down, wasting public funds on a presidential ambition that is bound to fail.
“Rather than hiding under book launch to declare his presidential ambition, why can’t the governor just come straight by telling Nigerians how well he has performed in Ekiti to qualify him to govern Nigeria?”
Tinubu hails Nigerian Governors over Supreme Court ruling on CBN Naira Swap policy
All Progressives Congress Presidential Candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has hailed the Governors of the 36 states for standing on the side of the Nigerian people over the Central Bank new Naira and cashless policies that have subjected the masses to pains.
According to Asiwaju Tinubu, the Governors especially the APC Governors who instituted the suit against the CBN and Federal Government at the Supreme Court acted well on behalf of the hapless Nigerians who have been made to bear the brunt of Naira redesign policy that has been poorly implemented
The Supreme Court on Wednesday morning in a law suit brought before it by the governments of Zamfara, Kogi and Kaduna States gave an interim injunction against the CBN and Federal Government, allowing the old N200, N500 and N1000 to remain legal tender beyond February 10 deadline until the case is fully disposed.
Following the apex court ruling, Asiwaju Tinubu noted that the governors have saved the country from a needless political and economic crises and miseries which have clearly become the unintended consequences of the monetary policy of the apex bank.
Asiwaju Tinubu noted that the Supreme Court ruling coincided with the advisory of the International Monetary Fund urging for the extension of the deadline for the swap of the old naira notes, going by the problems being experienced across the country in getting the new notes.
“I want to salute the courage of our Governors and most especially the Progressives Governors in APC who acted to save our country from avoidable and dangerous political crises and social unrest which the Central Bank policy on new Naira notes has brought on our country.
“Our country was dangerously careering toward anarchy and political and economic shutdown. But with the Supreme Court interim ruling our country has been pulled back from the precipice. We thank our Supreme Court Justices for ruling wisely on the side of the people who have been subjected to undue agony and pains since this policy was announced.
“The Federal Government and relevant stakeholders can now sit down and work out better framework on how to proceed with the new policy without causing any social and economic disruption and inconvenience to our people. We have examples of other countries that have successfully and seamlessly changed their currencies to learn from.
“Those countries give a long time, at least 12 months to effect the currency change. They do not engage in CBN-like Fire Brigade approach.
“We have seen how a good policy can be poorly implemented to cause unintended problems for the people who should be the beneficiaries. While lessons have been learnt, we must now move on as a country and people with a Renewed Hope for a better tomorrow.
“The sole aim of my running to be the president of our country is to make life better and more abundant for our people and this is an ideal for which I will remain eternally committed to.”
Asiwaju Tinubu called on the CBN to ensure that the Supreme Court ruling is effectively executed by taking all necessary steps to (i) ensure sufficient availability of Naira notes (whether old or new) and (ii) properly sensitising the public on the ruling and the consequent validity of old Naira.

Has Uche Ogah’s Governorship Dream evaporated?
As a top player in the oil and gas business, Uche Ogah’s paths have been laced with more roses than thorns.
The CEO, Masters Energy, plies his trade to the envy of many of his competitor
However, the man whose business interests include banking, insurance, aviation, shipping, dredging, logistics, construction and hospitality, had taken a wrong step when he dabbled into the murky water of Nigeria’s politics.
His foray into politics can only be described as a misadventure rather than an adventure, as his ambition of becoming the number one citizen of his state has so far amounted to a wild goose chase.
His political trajectory started in 2015 when he lost the Abia State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ticket to the incumbent Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu.
He had felt like someone whose birth right had been denied him; so, he reportedly spent millions of Naira to reclaim the ticket.
There was palpable joy in his household when Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to cede the certificate of return to Ikpeazu, maintaining that he was never qualified to run for the party primaries in the People’s Democratic party (PDP on the grounds of fake tax returns during the primaries.
Justice Abang further ordered the Chief Judge of the state to swear in Ogah as the substantive governor of the state.
Following the controversial ruling, his supporters went out in wild jubilation, while the whole state went into a frenzy.
But his balloon of hope was punctured, in spite of the fact that he was presented with a Certificate of Returns by the INEC.
This was so because the Appeal Court in Abuja nullified the Certificate issued to him, a development that finally put paid to his dream.
Surprisingly, in spite of this doleful experience, he never gave up, as he fought and got the ticket of the All Progressives Congress, APC, to challenge his old rival, the incumbent governor, Okezie Ikpeazu at the last governorship poll.
Like a serial loser, he was again defeated by Ikpeazu.
To make up for his loss and compensation for his loyalty for APC, he was appointed Minister of State for Mines and Steel Development.
To him, this was just a stop-gap, as his eyes are set on the number seat in the state.
He couldn’t wait for another election year in 2022, as he once again threw his hat in the ring for his most cherished ambition.
Though the primary election had been held, it still remains controversial, as two contestants are laying claim to the party’s ticket.
While High Chief Ikechi Emenike is being duly recognised, Ogah has sued the alleged winner and APC for trying to deny him his right.
At the moment, it seems his hope of getting the number one job of the state may not come true immediately, as the Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja, last week, dealt a blow to his ambition.
The Appellate Court affirmed Emenike as the Abia governorship candidate of the party for the 2023 election.
Since the development, the oil guru has reportedly been having sleepless nights. Perhaps, if Ogah had known, he would not have involved himself in the game of politics,
Indeed, if he knew any better, he would remain in his familiar business, making money.
