Veteran Nollywood actress Lanre Hassan, famously known as Iya Awero, recently revealed that her marriage was marred by physical abuse because she refused to give up her acting career.

In a candid interview, the 74-year-old Yoruba movie legend shared that her late husband initially supported her craft but turned violent after their marriage.

“When we were dating, he was happy about my acting. He even came to watch rehearsals,” she recalled.

But after marriage, everything changed. He beat me whenever I came back from acting, saying he warned me not to continue.

She explained that the marriage didn’t last long as her husband died at a young age.

Despite being widowed early, she chose not to remarry, citing uncertainty and fear of repeating the same pain.

“If you say you want to remarry, do you know what you’ll meet where you’re going?” she added.
