The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), has cancelled the national cut-off marks for admissions into tertiary institutions.

Crystal News learnt that the JAMB board made this resolvent at the 2021 virtual policy meeting that was held yesterday (Tuesday, August 31, 2021), and was chaired by the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu.

While JAMB could unanimously agree to cancel general the cut-off marks, the board could not agree on the admission deadline for all public and private institutions.

During the policy meeting, the education stakeholders also adopted that the 2021 admission guidelines, which provide that all applications for part-time or full-time programmes for degrees, Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE), National Diploma (ND), and others must be posted only through JAMB.

The meeting approved that, for Direct Entry, the maximum score a candidate could present is six and the minimum is two or an E, as required by law.

The new cut-off marks for JAMB

As disclosed by JAMB’s Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, some universities have already agreed on their cut-off marks following the cancellation of that of the national. And they are as follows:

University of Maiduguri -150

Usman Dan Fodio University, Sokoto -140

Pan Atlantic University proposed -210

University of Lagos -200

Lagos State University -190

Covenant University -190

Bayero University, Kano -180

In view of the new cut-off marks, institutions across the country have now been given the liberty to determine their admission benchmarks without JAMB’s interference.

With this new development, it would be smart for students to visit the tertiary institutions of their choice to know what the JAMB cut-off marks is, as the board is no longer in charge of what the schools should accept.

Meanwhile, Oloyede further disclosed that for the 2021/2022 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), two new subjects would be introduced for students.

The subjects include -computer studies and physical and health education. This brings the total UTME subjects to 25.

According to Oloyede, prison inmates, visually impaired and foreign candidates, are now exempted from sitting for post UTME exercise.

Speaking on the 2020 admissions, Oloyede revealed that out of the 956,809 admission spaces in the 962 higher education institutions in the country about 600,000 have so far been admitted.
