Kwara South Local Government Chairmen shut all Kara markets to address urgent security concerns and safeguard residents’ lives and property

Kwara South Local Government Chairmen have ordered the immediate closure of all Kara (cattle) markets in the senatorial district due to pressing security concerns.

The decision, announced after thorough consultations ean-up operations are ongoing, necessitating continued caution.

The closure also applies to produce markets, which must close by 6 pm on mawith key stakeholders, was made under the Forum of Seven Local Government Chairmen in Kwara South.

The shutdown takes effect from Friday, September 19, and will remain until further notice.

In a joint statement, the chairmen explained that this drastic move is necessary to protect lives and property following a series of violent attacks in the region.

While security forces have made significant progress in tackling criminal activities, clrket days to further enhance safety.

The chairmen acknowledged the economic impact the shutdown might have but stressed that security must be the top priority.

They urged communities to cooperate with security personnel and reassured residents that efforts by the state government and security agencies are focused on restoring peace.

Additionally, the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has relocated its orientation camp within Kwara State from Yikpata, Edu Local Government Area, to Kwara State Polytechnic in Ilorin due to escalating insecurity concerns.

This move was approved by the state government to ensure the safety of corps members during the exercise.
